Elenia and CMI launch partnership

Elenia, one of Finland’s leading electricity distribution companies, has entered into a three-year partnership with CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation. The cooperation reflects Elenia’s responsibility for securing everyday life and Finland’s security of supply – and its commitment to supporting peacebuilding in society.

“Elenia’s fundamental task is to secure the everyday life of our customers, and with that also Finland’s resilience. Cooperation with CMI reflects our values and gives us an opportunity to support peace work that strengthens dialogue and problem-solving skills in society,” says Jorma Myllymäki, CEO of Elenia.

Elenia will be a partner of Ahtisaari Days, CMI’s nationwide schools programme that equips pupils and teachers with tools for constructive conflict resolution. Since its launch in 2011, thousands of students across Finland have participated in Ahtisaari Days through workshops, lectures and simulation exercises.

“The goal of Ahtisaari Days is to make conflict resolution a civic skill. By strengthening young people’s ability to solve disputes through dialogue, we help prevent disagreements from escalating. We are delighted to start this partnership with Elenia to strengthen this important work,” says Aino Niskala, Project Manager at CMI.

Feedback from Ahtisaari Days has been very encouraging: nearly 70 per cent of participating students report that they now better understand what causes conflicts and what helps to resolve them.
