Safety Manifesto

Safety Manifesto of Elenia and its partners

Together with its partners, Elenia has drawn up and signed a Safety Manifesto and committed to following it in its daily operations. The Safety Manifesto is aimed at improving occupational safety in the construction and maintenance of an electricity network. The mutual goal is to eliminate accidents.

Generally speaking, Finland is not at the highest international level of occupational safety in construction – including the construction and maintenance of electricity networks. The purpose of the Safety Manifesto and the related measures together with Elenia’s network construction and maintenance partners is to build a more responsible attitude towards occupational safety on an ongoing basis. With their companies signing the Safety Manifesto, CEOs have committed to its goals regarding better occupational safety.

“TEKO – Returning home in good health” is an initiative, which includes all of the main contractors involved in the construction and maintenance of Elenia’s electricity network. As a network, the companies also take responsibility for safety awareness and safe working practices being put into action among their subcontractors. The initiative’s impact extends to as many as a thousand employees at Elenia’s construction sites.

The “TEKO – Returning home in good health” initiative highlights safety in many different ways. All accidents and near-miss situations are handled to prevent them from recurring. Together with its partners, Elenia provides ongoing safety training and orientation.

Goal
We will lead, develop and monitor our operating practices and safety culture to ensure there are no further occupational accidents.

Prerequisites
We will ensure that all persons working at our sites have the necessary knowledge, understanding and ability to implement safe and healthy practices in their daily work.

We will ensure that a culture of safety is implemented in our work environment, preventing malpractices and, if necessary, suspending operations in case sufficient safety levels cannot be ensured.

We will ensure that all persons working at construction sites, including subcontractors, receive an appropriate orientation for their work tasks, the performance thereof as well as safety documentation.

Practice
We will ensure that all persons working at a construction site wear the required personal safety equipment while on site and that all personnel have valid qualifications.

We will ensure that all persons working at a construction site have access to appropriate, certified and safe tools and methods at all times.

We will comply with all relevant laws, official regulations, industry standards and safe practices.

We will continuously monitor and promote the safety of our construction sites, ensuring the safety of third parties as well as employees.

Learning
We will report and analyse all accidents and potentially dangerous situations that take place at our construction sites in order to learn from them and to prevent them in the future. Furthermore, all accidents will be discussed between the CEOs of the companies concerned without undue delay. We will constantly monitor the implementation of our safety objectives.

Safety is a common issue and, with this manifesto, we appeal to each party operating in our shared work environment. We hereby commit to these safety guidelines and to only using subcontractors who are willing to commit to the terms and conditions of this contract.

This enables us to ensure that all of our employees can leave our sites and go home healthy at the end of their working day.
